thrift find

Our city has several wonderful thrift stores, and I admit to being almost addicted to keeping up with what’s new.  It doesn’t usually work to go looking for what’s needed, just leave yourself open to what comes your way.

This was yesterday’s major find. a 1-1/2 quart pyrex double boiler in excellent condition for  $9.75.  Oh, did I mention that Wednesdays are 25% off for seniors?  That was the price with said discount.  Since I have no double boiler, this is an excellent find.

Did also find an English made  manual meat grinder.  My old cast iron one was nearly impossible to use and had been replaced with an electric.  As much as I like the electric, there is a place in my being that would rather have the manual model.  This one has several different advantages to my old manual, including being tall enough to have a real bowl under the opening. Plus a better, more stable, clamping system.  Since I’ve no intent of doing sides of beef, the manual one will no doubt work just fine for all the things this can and will be used for.

This is not a picture of the one I bought, but it’s close enough for the purposes of this blog

I LOVE going to the different thrift stores. As we move away from non stick pans and plastic containers, I’m looking for more pyrex to add to our collection. Even though we do have a Kitchen Aid mixer with a meat grinder attachment, I do love the old hand crank kind too. We got one off of ebay for around $12.00. Not bad…it had all the attachments too.
