a night cap is not a drink

Quite accidently discovered the benefit of wearing something on your head while sleeping!  We’ve all seen the pictures of Victorian era folks wearing little caps on their head (think Ebeneezer Scrooge!).  There is logic to this. Just like wearing a hat outside on a cold day helps you feel warmer, something on your head in the house when the heat is turned way down warm does the same thing.  I’d gone to bed one night wearing a “snood”.  Not the modern version – a hood / scarf combination.  The traditional snood is like a knitted hair net.  The intent was to keep my hair from getting tangled and knotted.  Even though it was an open knit, it did bring warmth.  While we are all turning down the thermostat, its time to include some of these old ways of keeping warm!
